We use a protocol called FAB (Face, Airway, and Bite), meaning that with a single surgery we are going to
FACE
AIRWAY
BITE
The face is a complex system of moving parts.
To provide an aesthetic result with any cosmetic, dental, or orthognathic treatment, the hard and soft tissues of the face must have the correct shape, be in the right position, and provide proper function.
In fact, the correct shape, position, and function of the face are the very definition of physical beauty. This is our goal for each and every one of our patients.
The facial bones support the airways through which we breathe.
Skeletal position can directly affect the volume of air that passes through when we breathe. This airflow can be improved by placing the bones in the correct position.
The proper fit of the teeth (occlusion) depends on a complex interaction
between the shape of the teeth and their position in the bone, the relationship between the jaws, the facial and jaw muscles, and the temporomandibular joints.
The idea is for the upper teeth to mesh with the lower teeth.
